Areas of Practice

Robotic Prostatectomy

Robotic radical prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive surgery which uses surgical robotic equipment to remove the entire prostate. Dr. Marshall specializes in NERVE SPARING prostatectomy, to help preserve both urine control and erectile function. He uses an athermal technique and regularly does video review, helping other surgeons improve their technique. He has done over 2000 robotic cases.

Robotic Suprapubic Prostatectomy is a procedure used to treat massive prostates and chronic urinary retention. Previously a complicated open surgery, the outcomes and recovery times are dramatically improved with the use of the robot.

Penile Prosthesis

A penile prosthesis, or penile implant, is a medical device which is surgically implanted within the corpora cavernosa of the penis during a surgical procedure.

Robotic Radical cystectomy

A robotic radical cystectomy is performed through a series of small incisions, which are less painful, heal faster, and produce significantly less surface scarring than the larger incision associated with open surgery. The da Vinci surgical robot improves the ability to perform lymph node dissection.

Dr. Marshall specializes in robotic NEOBLADDER creation as well as ileal conduit and Indiana Pouch, other forms of urinary diversion.

Partial Nephrectomy

Robotic partial nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a portion of a kidney normally used to treat cancer while preserving as much healthy kidney tissue as possible. Dr. Marshall minimizes ischemic time to ensure normal function after surgery, while specializing in complicated kidney surgery and reconstruction.

Neobladder

An orthotopic neobladder is an internal urinary diversion in which a segment of the small intestine is used to form a new (neo) reservoir for urine. The ureters are attached to the neobladder, as is the urethra, allowing voiding to be done via the natural course.

Dr. Marshall is one of the few urologic surgeons in the country to develop an extensive experience with the prostatic capsule-sparing technique, a method of creating a neobladder which drastically reduces incontinence and erectile dysfunction in men after this surgery.

KIDNEY STONES AND BPH

Dr. Marshall occasionally treats Kidney Stones and BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy). Working with the other urologists at Capital Region Urology, their team effort has been developed to achieve superior results.
